Wiess Tabletop Theatre

is some of the best college theatre around! We're known for our Hello, Hamlet! productions ... along with pretty much every other production as well. We do it all in the Wiess Commons, the same place we eat. Not to be boastful, but Wiess rocks at Table Top – during my Freshman year, I watched Wiess Commons fill up to the brink for our shows, with people sitting on railings several times.

Each year, Wiess hosts at least 3 different shows:

Freshman One Acts
Freshman One Acts 2007 has been cast!
Calling all Freshman: Like to act? Enjoy getting up on stage? Feel bored and want something exciting that's well-worth your time? Join the freshman one acts! These upperclassmen-directed productions are acted completely by YOU and are blast for anyone performing or watching.
Student-Directed Musical
I call this a "Winter" musical, but really its more than that. While they require some time and patience, they nearly always turn out amazing - in the 2006-2007 year, Wiess hosted Urinetown! directed by our own Nickey Rodin. The performance was widely acclaimed as some of the best college theatre ever produced on Rice's campus. I know we plan to continue our level of excellence. Come be a part of it!
Student-Directed Plays
As much as we love to sing and dance, there comes a time when comedy can simply come in spoken words and sweeping actions. At Wiess, you'll generally be hard-pressed not to see student-production fliers posted on every door at various times during the year, calling for actors and others.

Not much into acting?

There are so many needs in a theatre production that not wanting to act is NOT a problem. Help build the sets and stages. Set up lighting. Run a soundboard. Perform the music. Work makeup on the actors (chase that boy with lipstick in a threatening manner). Just get involved!

If you want to work on a production, go and talk to the director - they love any help they can get! (Directors for plays should send me an e-mail so I can list your name and contact email here)

Otherwise, anyone who's interested in participating in any of these activities can (if my guess is good) contact Dhruv , an outstanding, friendly techie! Dhruv will be happy to help you find something that needs doing for the shows.

Of course, you're allowed to go to those other lesser colleges to act, but who really wants to do something like that, eh?
