Resident Associates

We are lucky to have the best RAs on campus.

Doward (doward@) and Christie Hudlow (cegh@)

Living on the third floor are Christie and Doward Hudlow. Both Wiess alums, Doward and Christie are full of stories about Wiess during their college years.

Doward, born and raised in Houston, is putting his English major to good use by working in the Development Office as a researcher. Christie hails from South Dakota (she claims people live there) and is using her chemical engineering major to make plastic during less-than-ideal work hours.

If you miss your four-legged friends from home, stop by and visit their cats, Henry and Bella. Between the two of them Christie and Doward can be found running, biking, playing flag football, singing better then Britney Spears, jamming with a kazoo and hosting Monday Night Football/Movie Nights. But the best part is that you can talk to them anytime and share a bunch of laughs. So get to know them, and you’ll be cool like them.

Brent (BC) Houchens (houchens@)

Brent C. (BC) Houchens is our resident associate living on the 4th floor of Wiess. Though not a Rice graduate, BC grew up in a town about the size of Rice, so he is all about the community aspect of Wiess.

BC is an assistant professor of mechanical engineering and loves to talk about fluid mechanics to anyone willing to listen. He’s also happy to listen to anything you might have on your mind, so come find him.

Brent hates to run (unless chased), but does nonetheless. He is an avid college basketball fan, and you can share in his madness come March. His favorite teams are the University of Illinois, U-C (where he spent 9 years before they deemed him sufficiently educated to graduate) and the Rice Owls. Fortunately his favorite teams rarely meet in competition, so his loyalties are not often called into question. Go Illini, Go Owls.

Dr. Bill (wlw@)

Dr. William Wilson (aka Dr. Bill) lived on the fourth floor of Wiess through the end of the 2005-2006 school year. Dr. Bill served as a Wiess RA for countless years and will always be remembered, respected, and loved by Wiessmen everywhere. A professor in electrical engineering, avid audio-visual buff and powderpuff fan extraordinaire, Dr. Bill is part of what has made Wiess the awesome college it is.

Associates

Each college has several different types of associates who play an important role in the college system. Faculty Associates are involved in all activities of the college, but have the primary responsibility for academic advising of freshmen and sophomores. University Associates (university staff members), Community Associates and Alumni Associates bring outside experiences to the college community. Each freshman group is assigned three or four associates (at least one of whom will be faculty) who participate in O-Week activities.

It is important to get to know the associates of the college. They can provide interesting and different points of view, and offer perspective on life "beyond the hedges".

Two Wiess associates live in the college and are always available for consultation or help when you need it. Our two Resident Associates are Bill Wilson (Electrical Engineering) and Stan Dodds (Physics).

A veritable Wiess institution, Dr. Bill (as he is called) is involved in almost every aspect of the college, from theater to t-shirt screening to taking pictures of almost every Wiess event. Get to know Dr. Bill; he's a great guy.

Stan Dodds is known for his wry sense of humor, and has been involved with Wiess for as long as anyone can remember, and this will be his sixth year living at Motel Wiess. Count on him to be the most reliable of stage builders for Tabletop Theater.
